PRESS CONFERNCE REPORT

A press conference held by ALL INDIA PLASTIC MANUFACTURES ASSOCIATION (AIPMA) in collaboration with INDIAN CENTER FOR PLASTICS AND ENVIRONMENT (ICPE) and BMC on 29th January 2010 was attended by 52 reporters from various newspapers and television channels. Dr. Mahendra Parmar, President AIPMA, Mr. Vijay Merchant from ICPE, Mr. Arvind Mehta, Chairman, Think Tank Committee and Mr. Mayhur D. Shah, Hon. Secretary, AIPMA were on the Dias. Dr. Parmar presented very constructive & inspring powerpoint presentation which gave indepdth details of plastic industry and recycling of plastics, providing important technical inputs to the journalists. Dr. Parmar informed that we fully support BMC's initiative of strict enforcement of the ban on thin plastic bags below 50 microns but we oppose a complete ban on all types of plastic bags which will definitely lead to inconvenience of the people especially for the weaker section of the society. He also added that industry is fully equipped to tackle the problems of plastic bags issue if infrastructural support is provided by the government.

Mr. Vijay Merchant from ICPE explained how WASTE MANEGMENT IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF WHOLE ISSUE AND NOT THE PLASTIC BAGS. Plastic industry along with ICPE will take the responsibility of recycling this plastic waste. Mr. Arvind Mehta, gave a brief idea about the industry. Mr. Mayhur D. Shah, gave vote of thanks.

All the media persons were delighted by the press meet. This press conference will defiantly help in building a positive image of plastics and remove the stigma in the minds of media and common man about plastics.
